The year was 1994 on the seventh floor of a rundown tower block in the poverty-stricken area of Sheffield in Yorkshire . In flat number 725 Brian at the age of 4 and a half was scrapping the last remnants of strawberry jam out of a jar spreading it thinly on some Jacob's crackers to give to his younger brother Jack whose size was a lot smaller for a toddler at the age of 3. Jack stood there all skin and bone in his grey underpants and a grubby Mr. Men t-shirt. Brian had managed to calm him down and stop him crying. he was not sure how long this could go on. Jack kept asking "where was mommy"? Last night he had woken up screaming, making the neighbours next door bang on the wall. This morning the old lady across the landing had knocked on their door and shouted through the letterbox.
